CISSR invites University of Chicago faculty to submit proposals to join its cohort of Research Fellows for the 2018-2019 academic year. CISSR seeks to sustain its dynamic and inclusive community of social scientists conducting research on global issues that cut across disciplinary, temporal, and geographic borders. We welcome internationally oriented and empirically driven social science projects from diverse theoretical and methodological approaches.

CISSR Support

CISSR provides up to $25,000 for faculty research projects at any stage of development. Funds may be used for a wide range of research-related activities, including field and archival research, purchasing data, research assistance, hosting a visiting collaborator on a short-term basis, or organizing a conference to plan and publish a special issue or edited volume.

CISSR also provides administrative and outreach support. Outreach support includes the production of multimedia content that can be used to promote the Fellows and their projects through various platforms.

CISSR financial support cannot be used by University of Chicago faculty for course releases, academic leave, or summer salary.

University of Chicago faculty in any discipline or unit are welcome to apply. Priority will be given to projects led by faculty in the Division of the Social Sciences.

CISSR seeks to support individual and collaborative international, transnational, or global research projects that address contemporary and historical topics to increase our knowledge and understanding of the world beyond the United States. Projects should be theoretically informed and empirically grounded and should stand to benefit from critical dialogue across disciplinary, methodological, and geographic boundaries.

Research Fellows are expected to contribute to intellectual life of the Center throughout the course of their fellowship term. All Fellows are required to submit a report on the use of CISSR funds by July 1, 2019 and acknowledge CISSR support in all related publications.

Applications must be submitted via no later than 11:59pm CST on November 15, 2017. After logging in with a CNET ID, the application can be found by clicking the “view funding” button and is listed as “CISSR: Faculty Fellowships, 2018-19.” All applications require:
